Professor Mohamed El-Gomati, recently appointed Chairman of the Foundation for Science Technology and Civilisation (FSTC), has been made an OBE (Most Excellent Order of the British Empire) in the New Year's Honours List.
Professor El-Gomati has been a trustee and Vice-Chairman of FSTC for many years. He is an advisor to a number of UK Universities and charities and speaks on the contribution of Muslims in Science, Technology and Civilisation.
Professor El-Gomati obtained his BSc degree in Physics and Mathematics from the University of Tripoli in 1970 and went on to study for his MSc in California and for his PhD from York University, UK. He became a Professor in Electronics at the University of York in 1997. His research interests are in Surface Science and Electron Optics with particular emphasis on the development of novel instrumentation for nanostructure and analysis. He is the author and co-author of more than 200 articles and patents in these fields.
Professor Salim Al-Hassani, founder of FSTC and 1001 Inventions, congratulated Prof. El-Gomati with the following text: "Only yesterday we had the good news that Professor El-Gomati, our new Chairman, was in the Queen's Honours List for OBE for his contribution to Science. I take this opportunity to congratulate him and ourselves. I know many of you had successful achievements and awards during last year. Heartfelt congratulations. In the description of one management consultant who attended our meeting, he said ‘I saw remarkable people.' Indeed you are."

As an internationally renowned scientist and researcher based at York University, Mohamed El-Gomati has written more than 200 articles, patents, and books. He has excelled in the field of novel instrumentation, developing and building several state-of-the-art instruments in surface analysis and microscopy. He has acted as a scientific referee to the British Government and UNESCO. Among his inventions are the world's first multi-spectral analytical microscope and the world's first parallel electron energy analyser for surface analysis. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing away of our dear friend and colleague Peter Raymond MBE, founding Trustee of The Foundation for Science, Technology and Civilisation (FSTC), the parent organisation of 1001 Inventions and Curriculum Enrichment (CE4CE). Peter also founded and chaired the Muslim Heritage Awareness Group (MHAG) of FSTC, a network that encourages public figures, especially academics, to support the main objectives of the Foundation which are to raise global awareness of the importance and relevance of Muslim heritage and its mostly unacknowledged scientific contributions to current world civilisation and also to promote social cohesion and inter-cultural appreciation through education.
The Royal Society: European Discovery of Arabic Cultureby: The Editorial Board This public lecture was organised jointly by the Royal Society and the Foundation for Science, Technology and Civilisation (FSTC). It traced the stages in the discovery of Arabic culture by European scholars from the early middle ages until the early-modern period.
1001 Inventions in LA extended for another ten weeksby: The Editorial Board Blockbuster show about science and technology in Muslim Civilization has already attracted 400,000 visitors to LA's Premier Science Center. Los Angeles, 2nd January 2012: Due to popular demand, the award-winning 1001 inventions exhibition, will continue it's run at the California Science Center (CSC) for an additional ten weeks. More than 400,000 people have already visited the blockbuster show which highlights the enormous contribution to science and technology made by men and women of many different faiths in Muslim Civilization.
The recently released third edition (2010-2011) of The 500 Most Influential Muslims, has bestowed a deserved distinction on Professor Salim T S Al-Hassani, the President of the Foundation for Science, Technology and Civilisation (FSTC).
The publication is an initiative of the The Royal Islamic Strategic Studies Centre (MABDA), which itself is an independent research entity affiliated with the Royal Aal al-Bayt Institute for Islamic Thought, headquartered in Amman, Jordan.
Professor Salim T S Al-Hassani was selected as one of the Muslims who, by their work, represent a worldwide influence on the Muslim community, this influence being the power (be it cultural, ideological, financial, political or otherwise) to make a change that will have a significant positive impact on the Muslim World.
