The Foundation for Science, Technology and Civilisation (FSTC) is a British non profit organisation founded in Manchester by academics in the fields of history, science and social sciences. The Foundation maintains the world's largest network of expert Scholars on the subject of Muslim Heritage with more than 50 specialist academics on its international board of advisers. It also runs a Muslim Heritage Awareness Group comprising of a galaxy of dignitaries and renowned academics meeting quarterly at the Royal Society. Its aim is to uncover ‘a thousand years of missing history', studying and conveying to the world the tremendous developments in civilisation which occurred in the era between the fall of the Roman Empire and the 17th century European Renaissance. The particular period FSTC researches covers 1,000 years between 600CE and 1600CE. As Islam spread to Africa, Europe and Asia as far as China, these lands saw a remarkable acceleration in culture and learning as well as invention and innovation in science, mathematics, astronomy, engineering, medicine and architecture; fantastic developments in study and education, governance and economics. The Foundation was set up in order to correct the bias of European history which to a large extent ignores this period of Muslim civilisation. For five years the world's experts in history, science and civilisation have co-operated with FSTC to form a body of knowledge; rigorously researched facts about discoveries, carefully compiled accounts of scholars from this period and all presented using modern edutainment techniques. As well as organising conferences, publishing features and educational campaigning, FSTC maintains the leading website www.MuslimHeritage.com. As part of its objective to popularise and promote the Muslim contribution to modern civilisation, FSTC launched the 1001 Inventions in 2006.
