Muslim Heritage in Our World: Social Cohesion

London Conference tackles 1000 years of amnesia of Muslim science and technology Wednesday 15th October, 2.30pm, Hoare Memorial Hall, Church House, Westminster.

Jim Knight MP, the UK Minister for Schools and Learning and Sir Roland Jackson, the Chief Executive of the British Association for the Advancement of Science will address invited delegates only at the ‘Muslim Heritage in our World: Social Cohesion' conference on the 15th October at the Hoare Memorial Hall, Church House, Westminster by the Foundation for Science, Technology and Civilisation (FSTC).

The conference supports the "1001 Inventions: Discover the Muslim Heritage in Our World" exhibition at UK Houses of Parliament from 13th -17th October.

Presentations by leading academics, professors and historians will counter the 1000 years of historical amnesia which has ignored scientific and technological contributions from other cultures to our present civilization, creating a false sense of Euro-centric pride at the expense of other world cultures. The conference will examine how addressing this situation can be used as a catalyst to help policymakers promote better cultural understanding and social cohesion today.

Lecture at Liverpool Athenaeum by: FSTC Limited
Professor Al-Hassani gave a lecture to the Liverpool Athenaeum at their prestigious library on 28 February 2008. Here His Honour Judge John Roberts, current President of the club, is seen presenting Professor Al-Hassani with a copy of Liverpool 800, a new book on the history of Liverpool in celebration of the city's 800th anniversary and receiving a copy of the 1001i book for the Athenaeum library. FSTC Research Associate Kaleem Hussain delivered on 17^th April 2008 a lecture on ‘Muslim Heritage: A Scholarly Perspective' at the Markfield Institute of Higher Education in Leicester. Aiming to explore the education of children in that area, focusing particularly on Muslim children, the conference presented the projects of FSTC and some milestones in contemporary scholarship in Muslim Heritage. 1001 Inventions at UK Houses of Parliament by: FSTC Limited
1001 Inventions have been given the privilege of exhibiting at the Houses of Parliament, from 13th-17th October 2008.

This taster exhibition will showcase the likes of Al-Jazari's Elephant Clock and Scribe Clock as well as his famous water pump raising machine.

The exhibition will also cover pioneering projects such as the 1001 Inventions Curriculum Enrichment Programme (CEP) and Cultural Understanding in Science Project (CUSP).

Between 13 and 17 October 2008, the Foundation for Science, Technology and Civilisation (FSTC) organised two major events in London: a scaled down version of the "1001 Inventions Exhibition" at the House of Parliament (13-17 October) and a conference on "Muslim Heritage in our World: Social Cohesion" at Hoare Memorial Hall, Church House, Westminster (15 October 2008).
