Abstract - Arabic Science in the Earliest Italian Scientific Academies
SPECIAL LECTURE by Prof. George Saliba
This talk will focus on the activities of the two earliest Italian scientific academies, the Accademia Secretorum Naturae (before 1600) and the Accademia de Lincei (1600-1630), and in particular on the activities of the most distinguished members of those academies, Giambattista della Porta (1535-1615), and Galileo Galilei (1564-1642) and their particular relationship to Arabic science and interaction with it.
The talk will be illustrated with reference to the works of these two men, as well as others in those academies.
