Abstract - Sustainability in its Historical Context
Dr. Anne-Maria Brennan Abstract Sustainability might appear to be a recent buzzword, but its origins are rooted firmly in the past. In exploring the challenges to sustainable development, we encounter evidence that these challenges were met in the past with varying success. As a result, viewing sustainability in its historical and cultural context may offer some solutions to the pressing problems of resource and lands-use management.
