
Dr. Rim Turkmani - A Short Biography
Dr. Rim Turkmani is a Royal Society Research Fellow, based at the Space and Atmospheric Physics group at the Imperial College in London. Her main research area is within solar physics, particularly particle acceleration in solar flares. She received a undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering from Damascus University in 1993 and followed it up by a Masters in Physics and a PhD in Theoretical Astrophysics from Chalmers University in Sweden in 2003. At the Imperial College, Dr Rim Turkmani is funded by the Royal Society to run her own research project. She has published several research papers in international journals and spoken in numerous international and national conferences. But being an expert in the field of astrophysics did not prevent her from looking at the classical Arabic and Islamic scientific tradition. She has given numerous seminars and talks on the subject in many conferences and universities in Europe.
