Figure 1: This folio belongs to a section on archery in the Treatise on Armoury written for Salah al-Din al-Ayyubi (1169-1193), the celebrated founder of the Ayyubid dynasty whose control extended over Egypt and Syria from the second half of the twelfth century, by Murda ibn ‘Ali al-Tarsusi. The work discusses weapons and tactics. MS produced in Syria in the second half of the twelfth century. It is preserved at the Bodleian Library in Oxford, MS Huntington 264.
